Our Values

We Value God's Word

Faithful Worship

For over 230 years, Martel Community Church has gathered to honor God through meaningful worship, prayer, and the study of His Word.

Genuine Fellowship

We believe in building lasting relationships through fellowship, community events, and shared service, welcoming people of all ages to grow together in Christ.

Serving Our Community

From outreach projects and Vacation Bible School to monthly fish fries, we are committed to living out God’s love by caring for those in need around us.

Our Pastor

Meet Pastor Dewey Smith

Pastor Dewey Smith has led Martel Community Church for seven years. Before entering ministry, he spent 21 years working for Keebler and the Kellogg Company in sales and management. A mission trip in 2004 changed his life and led him to study at Emory University and begin full-time ministry.

He and his wife Nancy have been married nearly 50 years and enjoy time with their two daughters and four grandchildren. At 70, Pastor Dewey loves golfing and spending time with both his family and church community.

Whether you're searching for a church home or just passing through, Pastor Dewey would love to meet you.

Join us this Sunday and experience the warmth of the Martel Community Church.

Our History

Rooted in Faith Since 1795

Founded in 1795, Martel Community Church has been a gathering place for believers for over two centuries. From humble log cabins and revival campgrounds to our current building erected in 1872, our heritage is deeply rooted in worship, fellowship, and service.

Historic leaders such as Bishop Francis Asbury once preached here, and today we continue to cherish that legacy while looking forward to a faithful future.

Our Misson

Living Out God’s Call Together

As a worshiping community of believers, we are called to uphold and advance the Christian faith through worship, fellowship, study, and service.

Our mission is to celebrate God’s love while guiding others to become disciples of Jesus Christ, living out our faith in a way that impacts both our congregation and the surrounding community.

"I grew up in a small church. I was married in that church and our first child was baptized in that church. We attended that church until we moved away. When we moved to Tennessee, we found Martel which is a friendly, loving country church, Physically the church has changed over the years, but the homey welcoming atmosphere has remained. Martel is a praying church and we’re all a part of God’s family."

"This church made me “at home” when I moved here in 2020. Friendliest people you can ever meet!  Dewey preaches straight from the Bible. He exhorts and teaches us, both on Sunday morning and at Wednesday evening Bible study. Worship is great! I love being a part of this body of Christ and invite all to come."

Kathleen

"My family have been members of Martel Church generation after generation. I started attending Martel when I was five years old. Martel was always a church filled with love for God and his people. When I married and moved away, I never moved my membership because Martel always felt like home.‍We may not be large in number but we are mighty in our love for God, his Word and his eternal plan for us."
